SPACE in coordination with Mozilla Kerala organized a one day event for women on February 8, 2014 at Central Polytechnic College, Vattiyoorkavu, Thiruvananthapuram. The aim of the program is to promote and involve more women in the FLOSS world and to increase the awareness of web issues facing by women, especially, regarding the privacy of women using the Internet.
The event was handled by SPACE and 2 volunteers from Mozilla Kerala. Event started off with the introduction to Free Software and then a discussion about Web Privacy, precautions to be taken to secure online profiles and how to browse the internet safely. The participants actively participated in this discussion and we had cleared many queries.
SPACE and the free software community organized a public exhibition on free software and free knowledge on Education Freedom Day on18th January 2014 at the bandstand of Napier Museum, Thiruvananthapuram. The exhibition showcased various free software and free hardware for education and privacy protection. Demonstration of robots using open hardware and tweet plant, which posts an alert message on twitter when it is thirsty formed part of the attraction of the event. A free software gaming zone was also set up. The stars of the event were the young boys and girls from SPACE summer camps, who explained the technology to the visitors, young and old alike.
SPACE's 10th anniversary celebrations got off with a lecture by Richard M Stallman on ‘A Free Digital Society’ today(16 January 2014) at Mascot Hotel, Thiruvananthapuram. He also released the 10th year souvenir of SPACE on the occasion.
