SPACE has been invited to be part of the international network of FLOSS Competence Centers. It becomes the 9th such center globally. Decision to include SPACE in the network was taken during the FLOSS Competence Centers Summit, held in Paris from 22-24 September 2011.
The FLOSSCC Network is a worldwide network of individual FLOSS Competence Centers that act in their geographical regions to promote the use and the quality of FLOSS in multiple areas of society including industry, academia, etc. The centers are organized in a network as a means to exchange experiences, best practices and collaborate on specific tasks.
SPACE has been playing a very important role in building free software capabilities in Kerala. It had an instrumental role in many of the successful free software initiatives in Kerala including IT@School project, Insight program for the disabled, free software based computerization initiative of Kerala State Electricity Board etc. By joining this international network, SPACE expects to share its expertise and knowledge with similar organisations in others parts of the world and to bring their expertise back to India and thus contribute to furthering the development of the free software ecosystem.
This invitation comes at a time when Kerala is celebrating the 10th anniversary of free software in the state. We take this opportunity to thank all our partners without whom we would not have been able to create a Kerala model in free software.
