MaSH : the true story of a shell

As part of the Software Freedom Day celebrations on 20.September.2008, a workshop titled "maSH - the true story of shell" will be held between 4:00 p.m - 6:00 p.m at the Press Club, Thirvananthapuram.

The purpose of the workshop will be to introduce mainly interested students programmers and general public with some amount of knowledge in C programming the basic concepts behind any GNU/Linux shell. The workshop will introduce the participants on how a minimal shell can be built. The workshop will also cover basic shell architecture, GNU autotools and GNU software development paradigm.

The basic code for maSH is taken from the fosh shell by Radovan Garabik http://www.fmph.uniba.sk/~garabik/. The fosh shell is in turn derived from the sash shell originally written by David I. Bell (dbell@canb.auug.org.au),

The topics are quite complex for beginners. The aim of this presentation is to give you pointers to the concepts and tools employed in any typical GNU project. The interested participants are encouraged to learn more about the concepts and tools mentioned in this presentation.
